Originally from Ohio, Dr. Eric Underwood moved to the Houston area to pursue a career in Optometry. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry, and his Bachelor of Science degree from Wittenberg University. He joined the Texas State Optical family in 2013 and is excited to be working at the Memorial office.
Dr. Underwood is a licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist with special interests in Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Disease, specialty contact lenses (including multifocal lenses and scleral and hybrid lenses for Keratoconus, Astigmatism, and other ocular surface irregularities), binocular vision disorders, Glaucoma, and Pediatrics. He enjoys family practice and working with patients of all ages, including infants, toddlers, and children with special needs. He is also fluent in Spanish.
In his free time, Dr. Underwood enjoys: golfing, cooking, traveling, and outdoor activities with his wife and rescue dog. Their most recent trip was to Madrid and Spanish wine country.
A native Texan, Linda Matocha grew up just south of Houston in Freeport, TX. She did her undergraduate work at University of Houston and graduated from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry in 1985. After working for an HMO in Houston for 4 years, Dr. Matocha joined the TSO family in November 1989 at the Memorial City location. She joined the Museum District TSO team in the fall of 2013 and Downtown TSO in 2017. Dr. Matocha now splits her time between Memorial City TSO, Museum District TSO and Downtown TSO.
Dr. Matocha is a therapeutic optometrist who practices full-scope optometry, including comprehensive eye examinations, all types of contact lens fittings, dry eye treatment and co-management of LASIK and cataracts. Memorial City TSO, Museum District TSO and Downtown TSO carry over 750 frames and sunglasses in the latest styles to meet all patient’s needs.
She and her husband Hal, a native Houstonian and petroleum Landman, moved from the suburbs to the Museum District area in 2006. Avid sports fans, they support the Houston home teams in baseball, football, basketball and soccer. They combined their love of travel and sports by visiting every major league baseball team’s stadium. In 2005, they finished this quest. They then worked on seeing the Astros in every team’s stadium, finishing that quest in Oakland in 2015. Together, Dr. Matocha and Hal have also been to all 50 states in the U.S. To keep balanced, they also enjoy the musicals at the Hobby Center and spending time with their very large extended family.
Dr. Tran grew up on the Southwest side of Houston but has had the experience of living throughout Houston. She had once lived in the Galleria Area as well as Energy Corridor and currently resides in Katy. Dr. Tran attended the University of Houston Main Campus for undergrad and graduated in 2007 with a Biology major and Chemistry minor. She then attended the University of Houston College of Optometry to graduate in 2012 (Suma Cum Laude). She has been working in the Optometry field since 2005, starting as an Optometrist Assistant but became fully invested when she started Optometry school in 2008. Dr. Tran has been wearing glasses since the third grade and was always intrigued with how the eye and vision works. She says she’ll never forget how amazing it was to be able to put on glasses and see clearly for the first time and after this, knowing she wanted to help others improve their vision. Dr. Tran specializes in Glaucoma Treatment and Management, Cataract Co-Management, Lasik Evaluation, Dry Eye Treatment and treating red eyes and all contact lens complications. She also fits soft and hard contact lenses! Dr. Tran is very passionate about helping people see their best! Dr. Tran is not only fluent in English but fluent in Vietnamese as well.
In her spare time, she really enjoys reading a good book, hanging out with her family and friends and traveling with her husband, crossing places off of their Bucket List. Patches is her 3 year old Shih-Tzu, which she calls her baby, that’s another joyous thing she likes to invest her spare time into!

Originally from the Detroit area, Catherine has an extensive background in Optical Management. She’s been all over the country but enjoys Houston the best. Catherine has her BA in Business Management and an AA in Merchandising Marketing from Los Angeles FIDM and BBA Baker College. She is currently working on her Masters of Business Administration in Healthcare Management. Catherine loves what she does, making a difference every day in every way for her patients. Her favorite part of her job is contributing towards changing patient’s lives in many ways through the gift of sight. She enjoys transforming patient’s appearance with the latest trends in eyewear and has many years of experience doing so! Her proudest accomplishment is opening and selling her own practice as well as receiving her educational degrees. She feels blessed to be the mother of 4 incredible children. Outside of work, Catherine loves to: spend time outdoors, travel, swim and hike. Her favorite pastime is attending pool parties and family vacations. A British statesman who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between the years of 1940 and 1955 with the name of Winston Churchill has given a quote that is very inspirational to Ms. Churchill:

Sheryl is a Manager at our Memorial Texas State Optical office. What Sheryl loves most about her job is meeting new, interesting people and loves being around her staff. Ms. Williams has many years of experience in Management and Customer Service. She has 20 plus year of experience as an Optician, Insurance Specialist and Finishing Lab Technician at our Texas State Optical offices. Ms. Williams is a native Houstonian who is married and has three sons who are all married, as well as 6 grandchildren, all living in the Houston and Beaumont areas. Her proudest accomplishments are her boys graduating College and her grandson becoming a Marine. Outside of work, Sheryl is very involved in her church, volunteers throughout the year feeding the homeless and working with various charities. Some of her special interests would include making jewelry, listening to some good music, sketching, dabbling in oil paintings and spending quality time with her family! She states her favorite pastime was when she shared unforgettable times with her grandbabies. Ms. Williams is loved by the staff and patients alike! There is lots of laughter in her life. Vanessa is currently saving in order to pursue a higher education in the Scholastic Field. She has a great passion in education and hopes to become a High School Teacher one day. Math and Psychology were her favorite classes in school which has inspired her to teach similar subject’s in the near future. Vanessa’s favorite part about her job is being able to be a part of the important process when it comes to helping patients with something as crucial as maintaining their eyesight. She gets great fulfillment out of helping the patients with a very significant part of their lives. Vanessa is a great asset to the team. She helps gather patient’s information for the Doctor and is also the first person seen by the patients. With this being said, Vanessa makes it very important to make everyone feel comfortable. Vanessa’s proudest accomplishment is living on her own as well as being able to solve a Rubik’s Cube under 2 minutes. One of her favorite childhood memories is going bike riding alongside her sister. Outside of the office, Vanessa likes to: play video games, watch Korean Soaps, learn new languages, explore the city and appreciate art. Deborah really enjoys seeing the smiles on the patient’s faces after they receive the vision care they need! Texas State Optical gives her challenges that she is equipped to handle efficiently and quickly with great training under her belt. Deborah is one hard worker, she is always available to the Doctor’s needs and hopes to move up in the company one day! One of Deborah’s greatest accomplishments in life is being a proud mother of four boys and a step-mother of one girl. She is fluent in American Sign Language. Deborah is very outgoing who loves: the summer, the beach, movies and spending time at home with her family. One of her favorite childhood memories is when she use to go to Astroworld, every year, with her friends and family!

A favorite pastime of Riddhi’s is the unforgettable adoption of her dog. Riddhi loves animals and happens to have a hamster as well. “I enjoy playing with my hamster outside of work. I am also very involved with my church and enjoy cooking and shopping in my spare time.” states Riddhi. Riddhi loves contributing; helping provide a service everyone needs. “My Optometrist has my best interest in mind when it comes to my vision…. and as someone who wears and needs glasses, that gives me a lot of peace! This is something I want to help provide the patients… peace, comfort and excellent vision.” says Riddhi. Ms. Riddhi is very versatile, helping in any way she can. She also speaks English and Marathi fluently! After High School, Riddhi got her Associates through Lone Star and is currently continuing her education at the University Of Houston Downtown in Psychology. “I love working with numbers and marketing. I am exploring my options career wise but I am interested in the Medical field”. Riddhi is very excited to meet and help Memorial TSO’s new and former patients. Evan graduated from Schreiner University in May 2017 with his degree in General Studies in Science. His ultimate career goal is to become an Optometrist. “I live for helping people see better.” says Evan. He enjoys seeing the smile on the patient’s faces when their vision has improved. “It is a great feeling and makes each day worth it.” Evan’s dad was an Optometrist and one of his favorite childhood memories was visiting his old Optometry office, which in turn made Evan very happy. “It felt like home away from home… even at a young age, I always loved optics and Optometry.” Evan states. He also says it was the best, just to spend good old quality time with his friends and family. In his spare time, Evan loves reading any and all kinds of books but comic books are his favorite. He also likes to socialize and explore Houston when he gets the time. Graduating from Schreiner University has been a huge goal for Evan and finally graduating was amazing he says. It is his top proudest accomplishment. Evan gives a new perspective in seeing, as he comes from a different background, he states. He is a great help here at the Memorial City Texas State Optical office and looks forward to helping you with your vision care needs.
Elisamai has been with TSO since May of 2014. She is a great contributor to our team as a Dispensing Optician. Elisamai is originally from Oaxaca, Mexico. She plans to study and become an English Second Language teacher in the future. She has such a compassionate viewpoint and is always willing and ready to help out her team. Elisamai’s skill set includes: making appointments, verifying insurance, pre-testing, ordering contacts and taking inventory. She is also fluent in English and Spanish! Getting her own place to live is her proudest accomplishment. Elisamai’s favorite childhood memory is camping with her Church and always being her Daddy’s little girl. Outside of work, Elisamai loves spending time with her family, twins and daughter and having fun movie nights! Her favorite quote is shared by a book that inspires many; The Bible:

Valerie has been working with Texas State Optical since November 2014. She likes being part of the TSO team and enjoys meeting new people. Her favorite aspect of her job is being able to be a part of providing such a gift, contributing to helping people see. Valerie comes to work with a servant heart and a willing attitude to help where she is needed. “Our goal, as a team here at TSO Memorial is to give our patients the best care possible.” states Valerie. Valerie has pursued education in many different trades. She has held a Securities License Series 6 as well as Life Insurance License and even became certified to dispense propane gas. She has also taken Real Estate classes as well as becoming a Landlord and owning her own Coffee Business. Her goal has always been to be the best she can be and to become an entrepreneur. Her proudest accomplishment was being able to become a Landlord which came with much success as well as owning her own U-Haul and propane gas business for over 15 years. Outside of work, Valerie enjoys: trading in the stock market, running, kickboxing, working outside in the yard, but most importantly she loves to spend time with the Lord in praise and worship. Valerie has 3 dogs and 4 cats. Her favorite childhood memory consists of spending quality time with her mom and sister swimming at the lake and bowling at the bowling alley with her dad. Her favorite quote comes from Philippians 4:13 in the Bible:
